Wouter Rijkee, Engineering Manager R&D
About the position of R&D Engineer Reeving Systems
As an Engineer Reeving Systems within R&D, you are part of the Reeving Systems team. This team is responsible for the design, analysis, and further development of critical lifting components such as hoisting systems, wire ropes, hooks, sheaves, and winches.
The focus is not only on product support, but particularly on knowledge development, standardisation, and innovation. You will work on long-term developments that influence multiple product lines and future systems.
What makes this role unique?
- An excellent opportunity to become a specialist within a clearly defined technical domain;
- A strong focus on technical content, expertise, and long-term development rather than purely project-driven deadlines;
- Direct influence on standardisation and product strategy;
- An active role in knowledge sharing and the technical development of fellow engineers.
What do we expect of you?
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- developing and structuring designs and concepts for reeving systems, including hooks, sheaves, winches, and associated load paths;
- performing strength and fatigue calculations, including FEM analyses for both static and dynamic loads;
- defining and safeguarding design principles, load cases, and safety philosophies;
- analysing test and operational data and translating these insights into design improvements;
- preparing and reviewing test plans and test reports, including conclusions and recommendations;
- actively contributing to the standardisation of components, calculation methods, and design data across the product portfolio;
- further developing and maintaining internal training courses and knowledge sessions for colleagues, focused on building and retaining expertise in reeving systems;
- contributing to R&D activities such as proof-of-concepts, validation testing, and technology development;
- acting as a technical sparring partner and (in time) subject matter expert within the Reeving Systems team.
Wondering if you are 'equipped for impact'?
You are:
- analytically strong and driven by complex mechanical systems;
- curious and intrinsically motivated to build and share knowledge;
- structured and critical in design decisions and data analysis;
- a strong communicator, both in writing (reports) and verbally.
You have:
- a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering;
- 2–5 years of experience as a Structural Engineer within (heavy) mechanical engineering, preferably in the offshore or maritime sector;
- affinity with reeving systems, wire constructions, hooks, and sheaves;
- experience with data analysis and translating data into actionable insights;
- experience with FEM software and structural design calculations;
- the ability to adapt quickly to new requirements and set priorities effectively.
Some practical things we need you to have:
- An EU passport/valid work permit for The Netherlands;
- A good command of the English language verbally and in writing.
